Description
Alliance was the weekly news publication of the Dominica Liberation Movement. The earliest available copy of the newspaper is in March 1980 and the publication ran until early 1985. Members of the DLM worked collectively to report and comment on issues of national and international significance during these early days of Dominican political independence.
As a leftist organization, the DLM featured news that emphasized the plight of the working class, with great emphasis on agriculture and labour unions in Dominica. Following various political tensions and upheavals in Dominica in the late 1970s, the DLM saw it as its mission to put pressure on the established governments to take account of the well being of the nation. Alliance was a platform to voice concerns about social and political issues and to offer a range of alternate insights on how best to move the country of Dominica and the Caribbean region forward.
Writing in the collective voice with no individual bylines, the newspaper also covered global issues of import with a focus on Pan-African themes and events.
